Report: Infiniti’s flagship could be based on a Mercedes rear-wheel drive platform

by SpeedLux

Nissan has recently revealed some new details about Infiniti’s upcoming flagship model.

Speaking to one of the auto news magazine, Nissan executive vice president Andy Palmer confirmed that they would not do a Merc S class or that type of car and that is because they have already done that before. In fact they want a flagship car that’s appealing and different from the existing lot.

The executive declined to give any further details of this flagship model but the publication states that the company is in the process of reworking the Essence concept to accommodate two rear doors and a more comfortable cabin. There are also rumors that the model could ride on a Mercedes-sourced rear-wheel-drive platform though the same is yet to be officially confirmed by the company.

The four-door coupe could be introduced in the year 2017 and could eventually be accompanied by a production version of the Emerg-E concept. However, Palmer further cleared that they already have the halo car in the plan, but the same has not been signed off yet. Well we will have to wait for further details to be revealed of this flagship model.
