Robotaxi startup Pony.ai obtains taxi license in Nansha, China

Self-driving company Pony.ai, said on Sunday it has gained a taxi license in Nansha, China, which will permit some of its driverless vehicles to begin charging fares.

Backed by Toyota Motor, the company said it was the first autonomous driving company in the country that obtained this license.

The startup said it got the license to operate 100 driverless vehicles in the Guangzhou city district of Nansha.

Last year, Pony.ai last got approval to launch paid driverless robotaxi services in Beijing.

Pony.ai has been actively testing its driverless technology in the United States and China. In the US they have done testing in the roads of California’s Fremont and Milpitas.
