One of the Suzuki representatives has recently confirmed that the Alto nameplate will be axed as the company wants to use only the “Celerio” designation.

The current generation of the Suzuki Alto is being sold in some markets with the “Celerio” designation, but once the new generation is expected to hit the market it will be sold all around the world only with the Celerio name. The vehicle was previewed recently in November by the A:Wind concept and is set to receive a production version towards the end of next year. The current Alto model is being manufactured in India while the upcoming Celerio will be built in Thailand alongside the Splash.

The A:Wind concept was showcased at the Thailand International Motor Expo 2013. Under the hood it came fitted with a 3-cylinder, 1.0-liter gasoline engine transferring power to the front axle via a CVT. The engine was most likely an updated version of the motor powering the current Alto which produces the output of 67 hp (50 kW) and 66 lb-ft (90 Nm) of torque.
