Two dead, three injured after car crash near Harrison

Two people were killed and three were injured after a crash between 2 pickups hauling loaded stock trailers Friday evening near Harrison, Highway 20.

State Patrol spokesman Cody Thomas says investigators are still attempting to figure out what caused the crash around 7:25 pm.

A 67-year old identified as Ruth Smathers of Lost Springs, was westbound and a 42-year old identified as Nanna Flesch of Shelby, MT, was eastbound when they crashed with each other.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Flesch’s three children sustained serious injuries were hospitalized.

Several animals also died as a result of the crash, as both trailers were loaded.

Highway 20 was shut due to the crash.

The Nebraska State Patrol was investigating the crash.
