The car crash left two dead and two others injured in southeast Charlotte early Sunday.

The crash took place around 2:30 a.m. on Colville Road, between Randolph Road and Queens Road.

Police found a burning 2019 Mercedes E450 station wagon when they attended the crash site. They also found four people associated with the crash.

The initial investigation showed that a 20-year-old male identified as Robert McElveen Walker was speeding down Colville Road near Twilford Place when he lost control and hit a curb. The vehicle then ran off the road and hit a set of brick steps and a tree before it caught fire.

Walker was pronounced dead on the scene.

The left rear passenger, identified as a 20-year-old male named Henry Huntley Melvin, had been ejected from the car by the other two passengers, but he was also pronounced dead on the scene.

The right front and right rear passengers were admitted to Atrium Health Main with injuries.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD), excessive speed could have played role in the crash.
