Two killed after car crash near a school in San Angelo

Two people died after a vehicle crash on early Monday morning near San Angelo Central High School.

Officials arrived at the crash site at about 1:29 a.m. Monday.

The crash took place near Houston Harte Expressway and Central High School, 655 Caddo Street.

Officers of the San Angelo Police Department saw a disabled red Kia Sportage that had hit multiple large rocks in the parking lot of the school before coming to a stop. Police saw a second damaged vehicle, a white Honda Accord, at 600 W. Houston Harte.

The driver of the Kia Sportage, identified as Raphael Salas, 45, was found entered Loop 306 and was hit by the Honda Accord. The Honda Accord then veered off the road and hit a large sign.

Police said the driver of the Honda Accord was not wearing a seatbelt.

Drivers of both vehicles were pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials are investigating the crash and have yet to reveal the identity of the Accord driver.
