Two killed, three injured after car crash in Midway, San Diego

Two people were killed and three others were injured on Saturday after a car crash near a busy Midway District intersection in San Diego, California.

Just after 9 p.m., the crash involving a pickup truck and a minivan was reported.

The crash took place when a 31-year-old truck driver was accelerating west on Sports Arena when he struck a median and his pickup went airborne.

The impact crushed parts of both vehicles and resulted in the deaths of both a man and a woman inside the van.

Two other passengers from the van were hospitalized.

The driver of the truck was also hospitalized.

The identities of the victims were not released and some roads were closed while San Diego police investigated the crash.
