One killed following Amtrak train crash into car on Virginia tracks

An individual was killed as an Amtrak train smashed into a car Sunday evening in Virginia, according to a report.

The fatal impact ripped through a red car at about 7 p.m. as the passenger train hurdled south through the Richmond intersection toward Norfolk.

The mangled car’s front end landed in a close-by roadway, photos reveal.

The train on Amtrak’s Northeast Regional route was loaded with almost 140 passengers and was postponed a minimum of three hours pending the crash investigation, according to WRIC-TV.

The victim was not right away identified.
