Police confirmed the deaths on Friday morning following the crash between a truck and a car in Waikato, New Zealand.
The crash took place on State Highway 1 in Karapiro at 1.40am.
The two people in the car were killed at the scene.
State Highway 1/Tirau Rd has been closed between Karapiro Rd and State Highway 29 and was expected to remain closed for several more hours.
By 11:46 am, State Highway One/Tirau Road between Karapiro Road and State Highway 29 had been reopened.
