Two people were killed after a two-vehicle crash in east Kansas on Sunday afternoon.

Victims identified as Nichole Gibbons, 31, of Wichita, and her 11-year-old son Terrell Gibbons, of Topeka, died in the crash that took place on U.S. Highway 50 west of Emporia.

Officials figured out that Gibbons’ eastbound car crossed the center line and crashed with a westbound sport utility vehicle. Gibbons’ car was then struck by a second vehicle – a westbound minivan.

Gibbons and her son were pronounced dead at the scene.

The 49-year-old man driving the minivan was hospitalized with serious injuries.

Lyon County Sheriff’s Office investigated the crash.
