Two killed after car crash on I-81 in Union Township

Two people were killed after a car crash in Union Township on Thursday morning at the north of the I-81/I-78 split, in Pennsylvania.

A Hyundai Elantra compact car was moving southbound on Interstate 81 when it traveled into the grassy median and crossed into the northbound lanes of travel, where it hit a Subaru Outback SUV.

A male driver and female passenger were occupants of the car when it hit the SUV, but they were not identified.

The driver and passenger of (the car) were pronounced dead at the scene.

The occupants of the SUV have been identified as Emily Kane, 81, Bernard Kane, 86, and Elizabeth Kane, 55.

Northbound lanes of I-81 were shut between Exit 90 in Lebanon and Exit 100 in Pine Grove for some hours due to the crash.

Pennsylvania State Police investigated the incident.
